About Us

Expressions of India is a portal which aims at creating a global market for promoting the various handicrafts of India and its creative people. We have 2 distinct areas that we cater to:

Traditional Handicrafts of India - India is a country with varied culture and each culture has its own form of expressions like handicrafts, songs, dance, food and lifestyle. There are many villages with specialized handicrafts, some known some unknown. It is our endeavor to give them a global window/ showcase. Many such traditional arts are on the verge of extinction due to a lack of market and many artisans have moved to cities for a livelihood thus bringing an end to the rich traditions of rural India. It is our endeavor to make these handicrafts available to the world without having to travel to India or these places ÔÇô accessible to anyone, anywhere and anytime and keeping the traditions alive.

Contemporary Art for the Creative people of India - Our aim is to give a global window to various artists and creative people ÔÇô to showcase their wares, which perhaps is restricted to their homes or even their friends and relatives. This platform will throw open the doors to the world. We deal exclusively with hand made products which could be modern or traditional.

 Our Journey-

  • We conceived the brand ÔÇ£Expressions of IndiaÔÇØ in Nov 2014 and launched in Dec 2016
  • The concept hit us during our various travels when we came across a lot of artists who came from rural India and traditional art/ handicrafts is their livelihood.  With the threat of digitizing and limited markets, these creative artists were forsaking traditional handicrafts and moving to cities to make their ends meet
  • Have identified artists from across 9 states in India and the vision is to cover all the states
  • Identifying & promoting dying arts and artists
  • Mentored by the Cherie Blair Foundation through Her Entrepreneurial Network (HENl)
  • Aligned to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

 Our Mission:

We enable and nurture the artists by empowering them with human dignity

What do we do:

  • We are trying to give a better market window to these artists who are limited either to the tourists or patrons finding them. Women constitute 41% of the artists that we are trying to promote. Our idea it to empower these women artist entrepreneurs from various parts of India specially rural areas by making them self sufficient. We are giving them a sustainable source of income by showcasing their wares/ creations on our online portal. The traditional art is often seen to be a source of employment in remote rural places. We are trying to give a better market window to these artists to reach out ÔǪ.. world wide since these are often quite remote places not quite accessible or well known.
  • We create awareness about the power and potential of going digital for exposure to global markets using our portal
  • We are aligned to the UN defined Sustainable Development Goals Out of 17 goals,  we are aligning our work to Goal no 5, 8 and 17 which are defined to bring gender equality, eliminate poverty and give dignity to human life.

    • Goal No 5 - Creating gender equality
Our entrepreneurial journey has seen several women whose talents were marginalized due to gender in-equality and understood the troubles they were undergoing despite being highly artistic. These women have constraints of having to do housework, taking care of their family members etc so we are reducing this constraint of being unable to travel and dependency on others for selling by enabling them to use our portal to sell directly. The more we create a better society that is gender equal the more prosperous our business will be and therefore our society

    • Goal No 8 -  Decent work and economic growth
We are working towards eliminating poverty and giving dignity to human life. It is important for us to see that our society encourages women in all aspects and women gets to play all type of roles she chooses without any inequality. The second reason is our core business to create a platform for artists to make them independent and self-sustained. Our business model does not limit our artists to sell only to us, they have the freedom to sell outside as well so that they have a wider patron reach and are not limited to finding clientele only through us. This gives them the motivation to create more and create better

    • Goal No 17 - Forging partnerships for goals
We are working towards creating partnerships with other countries to promote Indian handicrafts. This would enable us to work towards our goal of ensuring that artists are given due recognition and economic remuneration for their efforts in creating these master pieces. We would also encourage entrepreneurs from developing countries who have a rich tradition of handicrafts to use this as a business model to promote and create jobs for artists specially women in their respective countries. In short, forging strategic partnerships for the goals by promoting international trade and helping developing countries increase their exports all over the globe of achieving a universal rules-based and equitable trading system that is fair, open and beneficial to all.
