is seen in typical Rajasthani finery. Precious gems have been in abundance in
India and jewellery has always attracted women. Gold jewellery set with
precious gems or stones have always been a trend in India. This lady is seen
with precious ruby set in gold on her hair and head. The piece on her forehead
is called a maang tika or a sarpech, while the ear piece is called martels that
is tailed off as a jhumka (a bell shaped earring). Each gem is worn for its
special properties and it has a significance impact on the human body. The
jewellery, borders etc are also in gold. She is covered with a green veil or
dupatta and her hair on the side is curled in. When the painting is placed
against the light, the yellow / gold lines reflect. Originally, they were made
using gold. This piece of art is designed on old documents which are available
for sale in the markets. These papers are either old Government papers or
