Indian traditions weave around
nature. Every element of nature is appreciated and is integrated into
paintings. Indian traditions propagate respect for everything on the Earth,
worship birds and animals, trees etc. The Peacock is the national bird of India
and is also the vehicle of an Indian diety called Murugan or Karthikeyan, son
of Lord Shiva, the Destroyer of the Universe. India has plenty of peacocks and
rainy seasons bring them in grandeur. The significance of fishes in Indian
tradition goes back to the 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu, where the 2nd
avatar is the Matsya or Fish form of Lord Vishnu. These avatars are known to
destroy Evil in various Ages and are associated with symbolic folklore. Here, a
pretty peacock is seen perched on branches while a fish with a crown around its
head is highlighted by intricate fine lines. The bottom of the tree has been
decorated finely.
